You could say that elders aren't the strongest rung on the Watchtower ladder.

Come again -- this elder doesn't know what? And what is Shinola?
by FatFreek 2005 ina jw elder and his companion called at this home where an 8-year-old girl answered the door.
the elder greeted the little girl with a question, "what do you think about god's promise to live forever in a paradise earth where your back yard would be populated with your very own friendly horses, cows, and deer.".
"hmmmm" ... she paused and replied, "that's an interesting word picture that you create ... but let me ask you a question first.

A JW elder and his companion called at this home where an 8-year-old girl answered the door. The elder greeted the little girl with a question, "What do you think about God's promise to live forever in a paradise earth where your back yard would be populated with your very own friendly horses, cows, and deer."
"Hmmmm" ... she paused and replied, "that's an interesting word picture that you create ... But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces spherical clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"
The elder, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."
To which the little girl replies, "Then how can you act so arrogant by coming to our door pretending to know about God's plan when you don't know shit?"
I know, it's a recycled old one but, hey, it's Saturday -- and they may be knocking on your door.

JW's week after week trying to convert me
by HBJ inthis is my first post.
i have been a protestant christian my entire life, but over the past few months ive been conversing with two jehovahs witnesses on a weekly basis.
as they quickly learned that i was biblically versed, they replaced what i would call a trainee, with someone i believe to be an elder.

Hi TrailerFitter. You said, "My wife is being drawn ever closer to baptism and she thinks that she knows it all and is officially trained although she knows not the technical Jargon or any other point of view other than that of the WT. "
Perhaps you can nip that in the bud. The followinglinkexposes Watchtower by revealing the most outrageous series of Watchtower contradictions that most of us have ever seen. It does it from their own publications. It does it without discussing any doctrines, which, as you know is like talking to your cat.
If she's willing to take the 9 minutes it takes to read it, there's a good chance that her baptism will be postponed. Good luck.

When we were kids we played the game Simon Says, remember that one? It teaches kids to listen to exact and explicit wording of commands.
A recent U.S. president said, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." Of course, he meant he didn't have engage in vaginal penetration. It was only thanks to a dress that never made it to the dry cleaners that convinced the world that he indeed had a happy ending. LIttle consolation to Hillary, I'm sure.
The Watchtower continues to play similar word games. Another one, "we never stated "Jehovah said" ..." They're good at the Simon Says game. What else is new.

Need help waking up a JW friend - Significant prophetic years in JW history
by SweetBabyCheezits inguys, i have a chance to help an old friend but i'm pressed for time.
i'll be googling while i'm waitin for responses but i thought others might have some great sources that are harder to find.. first, can anyone recommend a list or website that lists all the infamous years that russell and other leaders expected to have special significance?
it's been too long since i've read up on all of that but i'm thinking about the years like 1799, 1874, 1881, 1910, 1914, etc.... but i need it to be concise, like a table, and i must be able to list references to scans at least.

Obituary / Infomercial?? The first I've ever seen. How about you?
by FatFreek 2005 inthis morning's local paper carried the obituary of a local musician, designer, etc., whose memorial will be some 14 miles from where we live.
what caught my eye is the advertisement within the body (no pun intended) of the obituary.
apparently the family doesn't want this man's passing to go without a bit of commercial leverage.

Hi 30 years out,
First, if your handle has any meaning to it, we have a lot in common as I am some 33 years out.
As to your posting some type of chart, you may want to try a few different approaches. First, you must realize that any file you create on your computer (chart, photo, image, graph, drawing, etc) cannot be shown here without special treatment. The file that this site allows must be web-based, not local computer based. It must have some URL or internet address. The steps are not complicated but will take a bit more time.
Let's say you've created your chart in Excel (or similar spreadsheet) on your computer. Here's a couple of options:
- Upload that file into Google Docs and that will convert the spreadsheet to its own simplified version. You must first sign up for a Google account but that's free. Once there, determine that new file's hyperlink. Copy it and you can then use it to post here by using that green icon that looks like a tree.
- Take a screenshot of that chart and save it as a jpg filetype. You must then upload that file into some online host (many are free) like Photobucket. Once there, determine that new file's hyperlink. Copy it and you can then use it to post here using that green icon that looks like a tree.

Why the fetish with NICOTINE???
by sinis ini have smoked, i quit, but now enjoy alternatives such as e-cigs, snus, and even the gum.
i find that nicotine has a nice mental enhancement, has several medical benefits and actually may help individuals to relax and focus.
now the question is this, why does the wts have such a fetish with nicotine?

Al Gore really ticked me off when he accepted the nomination. Remember he told such a moving story about his sister dying from nicotine.
Correction re N.Y. Times: "As Mr. Gore spoke of his sister, a two-pack-a-day smoker who died at age 46, women in the audience brushed tears from their cheeks, ..."
Correct me if I'm wrong but it was tobacco smoking that killed her. Tobacco, with its scores of carcinogens, killed her. That single ingredient this post is pertaining to, nicotine, is not that harmful per se. Addictive, yes. Take the time and look up the reference links above from our friend Sinis. Then report back here.
That said, am I going to take up tobacco smoking after having quit for some 50 years? Absolutely not! I wouldn't be able to tolerate that aftertaste and the morning breath -- which is bad enough without tobacco. Plus, the $1300 it would cost me each year would hurt too much. I'd rather finance an annual cruise for the wife and myself.

Were there 2 witnesses when you were DFd?
by FatFreek 2005 inof the some 70,000 disfellowshippings each year (some 1% of the membership) most were for sexual misconduct.
of these, i think i'm safe to say that very few were witnessed by a third party.
that means that both participants had to voluntarily confess in order to satisfy their 2-witness rule.. know of any that didn't meet this rule?.
